Decker, Smith, Spoonhower, and Taylor Lock In; Desimone, Catalano, and Rhodes Win Jan Corcoran Memorial Friday Features
CENTER LISLE, NY – Thunder Mountain Speedway officially kicked off the 2026 season on Friday night with the opening of the Jan Corcoran Memorial Weekend. Billy Decker and Matt Smith made the most of the Modified timed warm-up sessions, while Chance Spoonhower Jr. and Ray Taylor secured spots in the DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Anthony Desimone, Trevor Catalano, and Jason Rhodes were victorious in their respective main events.
Decker returned to racing in strong form, setting the fastest time in the first Modified session with a lap of 13.856, beating out Cody Higbie to secure the sixth starting position for Saturday. His teammate, Smith, topped the second session, edging Nick Nye with a lap of 13.954, earning the fourth starting spot.
In DIRTcar Sportsman competition, Spoonhower Jr. was fastest overall across both sessions, posting a top lap of 14.728. By virtue of setting the fastest time in the second session, he will start fourth, while Taylor, who was second quickest in the first session, will line up sixth.
Anthony Desimone drove to victory in the 20-lap 600cc Modified feature with a decisive mid-race move under the lights. After settling into the early laps among the front-runners, Desimone made his move on lap 8 to take control of the race and maintained the lead for the remainder of the event. Tom Donahue, Jared Green, Justin LaDue, and Ajay Tuttle completed the top five after a competitive battle throughout the field.
Trevor Catalano charged to victory with a decisive late-race move through lapped traffic to pass his brother Tyler for the lead and win in the 600cc Sprints 20-lap feature. Tyler raced out to the lead at the initial green flag. As the race progressed, traffic became a key factor, allowing Trevor Catalano to close the gap and capitalize in the closing laps with a well-timed pass for the lead. Ivan Forney and Zach Bobbett remained consistent throughout to secure top-five finishes.Trevor Catalano took the win, followed by Tyler Catalano in second, Alloco in third, Forney in fourth, and Bobbett completing the top five.
In the 20-lap Factory Stock main event, Mike Morse took the lead at the start before mechanical problems ended his night. At this point, Jason Rhodes inherited the top spot. From there Rhodes held onto the top spot with Buck Mills Jr. chasing. Rhodes got the win over MIlls, and Alecia Towner.
