Tonkin and Johnston Lock in to Corcoran Memorial, Scutt, Stack, Bobbett Win Opening Night

CENTER LISLE, NY – The action was fast and furious Friday night as Thunder Mountain Speedway kicked off Night One of the Jan Corcoran Memorial, presented by Dot Foods. With guaranteed spots on the line for both the Modifieds and DIRTcar Sportsman, drivers brought the heat right out of the gate.
Other winners on the night included Ali Scutt, Doug Stack Jr., and Zach Bobbett.
In the first round of timed warmups for the Modifieds, Brett Tonkin laid down a solid lap of 14.081 to lock in the sixth starting spot. The second session saw Tyler Johnston step up with a 14.256, good enough to grab the fourth starting position for Saturday’s showdown.
DIRTcar Sportsman drivers didn’t hold back either. Grant Hilfiger made a rare but memorable appearance, clocking the quickest lap of the session at 14.890. TJ Frost followed up with a strong second session, posting a 15.852. When the dust settled, Hilfiger earned a sixth-place start for the main event, while Frost is locked into the fourth spot.
Features got rolling with the 600cc Modifieds in a 20-lap feature, and it was Ali Scutt jumping out front early. Justin Ladue stayed glued to her bumper the whole way, but Scutt held strong to take the checkered flag. Ladue crossed the line in second, with Owen Mossow completing the podium. Tom Donahue and Tyler Talada rounded out the top five.
Next up, it was the Factory Stocks going 25 laps, and Doug Stack Jr. wasted no time grabbing the lead. But the show was behind him—ninth-starting Jerry Lobdell Jr. came charging through the pack like a man on a mission. He gave Stack everything he had in the final laps, but Stack slammed the door and parked it in Victory Lane. Lobdell took second, with Tommy Groover third, Donahue fourth, and Talada once again locking down fifth.
Closing out the night was the 20-lap 600cc Sprint feature, and it was all Zach Bobbett. He had the field covered from the drop of the green, cruising to a dominant win. Tyler Catalano rolled in from out of town and snagged second, followed by Kevin Delong, Ivan Forney, and Chuck Bruce to round out the top five.
We’re back at it Saturday for Night Two! Pit gates swing open at 1 p.m., grandstands open at 2, hot laps fire off at 3, and the green flag drops at 4 p.m. Pit passes are $45, while grandstand admission is $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, veterans, and kids ages 10–17.
