Smith Rides High Side to Thunder Win; Jackson, Lamphere, Windhausen, Lobdell, Bobbett also Find Victory Lane

CENTER LISLE, NY – Darren Smith celebrated Independence Day weekend in style by claiming the win in the 35-lap Dirt Track Digest TV Modified feature on Saturday night. It marked Smith’s second victory of the 2025 season at Thunder Mountain Speedway and it increased his point lead in the class.
Cody Jackson earned his first win of the year in the DIRTcar Sportsman division. Keith Lamphere rebounded from a rough start to capture the NY Penn IMCA Modified Series main event. Doug Windhausen earned his first-ever victory in the 600cc Modifieds, Jerry Lobdell Jr. dominated the Factory Stock main, and Zach Bobbett took the checkered flag in the 600 Sprints.
The 35-lap Modified feature got underway with Ajay Potrzebowski grabbing the early lead by working the high lane in turns three and four after starting on the outside of the front row. Potrzebowski held the top spot until lap seven, when he was penalized for contact with another car, handing the lead to Byron Worthing.
Worthing paced the field in the early going as Smith charged forward on the outside in his FX Caprara-sponsored No. 12. Favoring the high line, Smith began pressuring Worthing for the lead by lap 10.
On lap 13, Smith completed the pass on the outside through turns one and two, then pulled ahead for good in turns three and four. From there, he opened up a comfortable lead and cruised to victory after starting eighth. Worthing finished second, with Nick Nye in third. Will Shields and Brian Malcolm rounded out the top five.
Cody Jackson powered his No. 99 machine to victory in the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature, securing his first win of the season. Starting third, Jackson wasted no time charging to the front, taking the lead from Chuck Lowe on lap five. Once out front, Jackson set a strong pace and never looked back, holding off a late charge from Matt Brewer, who made an impressive run from the 11th starting spot to finish second. Jordan Millard crossed the line third, followed by Luke Powell in fourth and Todd Hayward, who rallied from 14th to complete the top five.
Keith Lamphere put on a resilient and determined performance to win the 25-lap NY Penn IMCA Modified Series Billy Ward Memorial feature. After sustaining damage in a wreck during the dash, Lamphere and his crew went to work, making the necessary repairs to get the No. 98K back on track. Starting 10th, Lamphere charged through the field and took the lead on lap nine with a bold move around the outside of Jakub Ingham in turns one and two. From there, he never looked back, holding off Randall Paxton, who finished second after starting seventh. Rodney Morgan made a strong run from 11th to take third, followed by Matt Robertson in fourth and Tyler Stoddard, who drove from 18th to complete the top five. Stoddard was docked four spots in post race tech giving Ingham fifth in the final rundown.
Jerry Lobdell Jr. put on a dominant display in the 20-lap Factory Stock feature, powering his No. 202L to victory after taking the lead on a lap six restart. Starting fifth, Lobdell capitalized on the restart opportunity, making a decisive move to the front and quickly distancing himself from the field. Once out front, he never looked back, cruising to a convincing win. Rich Sharpsteen finished second after starting fourth, while pole-sitter Lukas Mills settled for third. Frank Del Nero Jr. charged from 10th to finish fourth, and Harold Lobdell Jr. rounded out the top five.
Doug Windhausen captured his first win of the season in the 20-lap 600cc Modified feature with an impressive drive from the 10th starting position. He steadily worked his way through the field and made the decisive pass on the low side of turns three and four to take the lead. From there, Windhausen maintained control and held off a pair of fast-closing competitors—Tyler Talada, who charged from 16th to finish second, and Tom Donahue, who advanced from 15th to take third. Justin LaDue finished fourth, while pole-sitter James Deisz completed the top five.
Zach Bobbett raced to victory in the 20-lap 600 Sprint feature to wrap up the night, making his move for the lead on lap 6 with a smooth pass on the low side of turns one and two to get by early leader Ivan Forney. Starting fourth, Bobbett showed speed and control once out front, holding steady through the remainder of the race. Forney, who started on the pole, settled for second, followed by Thomas Paige in third. Tyler Catalano finished fourth, and Mary Earley rounded out the top five.
TECH UPDATE: Adam Doll’s third palace finish from June 14th in the 600cc Modified feature has been reinstated. Upon further review the team met all technical requirements and the disqualification was rescinded giving him back his third place finish.
