A Race for the Ages; Loucks Beats Zacharias by .02 at Thunder Mountain

CENTER LISLE, NY – Brandon Loucks is on top of the world.

Loucks stole the spotlight Saturday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway, edging Jimmy Zacharias by just 0.02 seconds in a thrilling finish to win the Dirt Track Digest TV Modified feature. The event, held in memory of Connor Sellars, also saw feature victories from Matt Brewer (DIRTcar Sportsman), Earl Zimmer (IMCA Modifieds), Jerry Lobdell Jr. (Factory Stocks), Tyler Talada (600cc Modifieds), and Ivan Forney (600cc Sprints).

Loucks, who started 10th in the Modified main event, carved his way through the field before engaging in a dramatic five-lap duel with Zacharias. The two drivers traded the lead multiple times before Loucks surged ahead off the final corner to claim the win by a razor-thin margin at the stripe.

Higbie set the pace early, taking the lead at the drop of the green and running the high side to perfection. He hit lapped traffic on lap 11 but maintained control until a lap-25 caution for Ajay Potrzebowski reset the field. On the restart, Zacharias took over the top spot before being reeled in by Loucks in the closing laps.

Zacharias settled for second, with early race leader Cody Higbie finishing third. Matt Smith and Darren Smith completed the top five.

Matt Brewer powered his way to the front and captured the win in the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature, taking the lead on lap 17 after starting 10th. Brewer patiently worked his way through the field before making his move in the final third of the race, then held off a determined TJ Frost, who crossed the line second after starting from the third spot. Randy Brokaw, who ran in the top five throughout the race, came home third, followed by Cody Jackson in fourth and Luke Powell rounding out the top five.

Earl Zimmer made a late-race charge to win the 20-lap IMCA Modified A Feature after taking the lead on lap 14. Starting from the 10th position, Zimmer steadily worked his way through the field and made his move in the final laps to take command of the race. Keith Lamphere, who started fifth, put up a strong fight but ultimately settled for second, while Matt Roberts claimed third after a consistent run from the sixth starting spot. Tyler Belcher, who rolled off second, held on for fourth, and Jakub Ingham rounded out the top five.

Jerry Lobdell Jr. claimed the win in the 20-lap Factory Stock feature after taking the lead from Rich Sharpsteen on lap 13. Starting from the fifth position, Lobdell steadily worked his way forward and made his move in the closing laps to secure the victory. Sharpsteen, who led the opening 12 laps from the third starting spot, finished second. Shane Moshier came home third after starting on the outside of the front row, while Harold Lobdell Jr., who led early from the pole, settled for fourth. Rounding out the top five was Bob Mills.

Ivan Forney led all but one lap to score a dominant victory in the 20-lap 600cc Sprint feature after starting from the pole. Forney set the pace early and never looked back, holding off multiple challenges to secure a flag-to-flag win. Zach Bobbett, who started third, kept pressure on Forney throughout but had to settle for second. Billy Applebee advanced from the fifth spot to finish third, while Thomas Paige and Nate Combs completed the top five after starting second and fourth, respectively, in a fast-paced and competitive main event.
